Early JD 544 questions

 · One idea that I have is that this is not the original transmission for that loader. Case/Fiat/ all had loaders that used these TT transmissions, but they all ran a different ratio transfer gear. John /Ford ran .685:1, Case/Fiat/ and others ran .846:1. Just an idea.

 · My John 544 J loader is having problems with the front hydraulic system. There is plenty of hydraulic oil, and there seems to be plenty of pressure in the system however the hydraulics move very slowly. There is no odd noises. Everything seems to be normal except for the fact that the bucket raises and tilts slowly.

 · You could get one of the detachable backhoe attachments for a 450 track loader and adapt it. If you do try to get one with the cylinders for swing, I was told the ones with the swing motor are problematic and expensive to repair. I wouldn't bother mounting a backhoe on a 544 myself, cheaper, easier and better to just get a tractor/loader/backhoe.
